India’s popular digital payment system, UPI, faced technical issues again on Saturday, causing many users to face problems with transactions.
This is the third time in less than two weeks that UPI has gone down — similar problems were reported earlier on March 26 and April 2.
According to Downdetector, a website that tracks service problems, complaints about failed UPI payments started coming in around 11:30 am.
People are now worried about how reliable UPI really is, especially since it's the most used digital payment system in the country.
UPI is managed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which is supervised by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
At around 1:12 pm, NPCI posted on X (formerly Twitter):
"We are facing some technical issues, which are causing some UPI payments to fail. We are working to fix it and apologize for the trouble."
They did not explain exactly what went wrong.
Earlier on April 2, NPCI had said that the issues were due to problems in some banks which caused delays in the UPI system.
UPI runs on the IMPS system, and it helps people send money instantly between bank accounts without any fees.
