Sony Hikes PS5 Prices Globally – Is Your Country Affected?

ony has increased the price of its PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in several countries. The company says rising inflation, currency issues, and new tariffs are to blame. This decision will not affect India for now.

A Tough Call for Sony

In an official statement, Sony Interactive Entertainment said it was a “tough decision,” but necessary due to the current global economic challenges. The price hike starts on April 14 in the following regions:

  • Europe

  • United Kingdom

  • Australia

  • New Zealand

  • Middle East and Africa (exact prices not shared)

New PS5 Prices

Here’s what gamers will now pay for the PS5 Digital Edition:

  • Europe: €499.99

  • UK: £429.99

  • Australia: AUD $749.95

  • New Zealand: NZD $859.95

The Standard PS5 (with disc drive) stays the same in most regions, except in Australia and New Zealand, where it now costs:

  • Australia: AUD $829.95

  • New Zealand: NZD $949.95

Buyers in the Middle East and Africa are advised to check with local stores for updated prices.

What's Causing the Price Hike?

The price rise comes after the U.S. announced new tariffs on imports, including a 24% tariff on products from Japan. Although this doesn't affect all markets directly, Sony says the cost of making and shipping consoles has gone up worldwide.

Experts think other tech companies, like Apple, might also raise prices soon due to these global economic pressures.
