Bohse Safari Landau

This $29K Bohse Safari Landau Has More Porsche Than You’d Expect

You probably don’t think of Lada when someone mentions cool or luxury cars. But the Bohse Safari Landau is something totally unexpected. This odd little car was made in West Germany and is a mix of many car types — it’s part convertible, part pickup truck, and part small family car.

It all started with a German company called Bohse, which took the basic Lada Samara and turned it into something wild. But here’s the surprise: Porsche actually helped develop it! Porsche worked on the engine, the drivetrain, and even the design. So yes — this strange Lada is somewhat related to high-end cars like the Audi RS2 and the Mercedes E500.

The car is called the Safari, and it was far ahead of other Ladas at the time. The model up for sale in the U.S. is in amazing shape. It still has its original paint, stickers, and steering wheel badge. Even the dashboard looks brand new.

What makes the Safari really unique is its design. The front roof can be removed like a sunroof, and behind the seats there’s a soft-top that you can unzip. At the back, there’s a tiny truck bed, though you probably wouldn’t carry much in it. Underneath that is a surprisingly large trunk.

Inside, the car is basic but functional. It has manual controls, a stick shift, and simple knobs and buttons. It only has 6,572 miles on the clock, which means it’s barely been driven.

The wildest part? You can still find parts for it, because the Lada Samara was in production until recently. So while it’s rare, maintaining it isn’t as hard as you’d think.

Right now, this unique car is on sale for $28,995 in Massachusetts. That might sound like a lot for an old front-wheel drive car from a brand most people don’t know — but in the world of weird and rare cars, it just might be worth it.
